Not a wedding or engagement… some personal reflections……

This weekend was really great, after 6 weekends of weddings and endless hours at the computer editing, we had some time to relax and re-visit some of the things that influence and drive us.

The plan Sunday was to get down to the San Diego Museum of Art to see the Georgia O’Keefe exhibit. I have been a Georgia O’Keefe fan for years, her paintings inspire me greatly, they are soft, feminine yet so vibrant and strong!

Seeing her paintings in person was amazing, as I looked at them I could almost imgine her hand painting each stroke.

These pintings also made me think about my other favorite influence, Salvador Dali, while completely different, I started thinking about  similaraties between the two. Dali is so much more out there though… one crazy painter!! But I love his work as well!!

The melting clocks have always been a favorite of mine. I winder if it is because I am always on such a tight time line at weddings and would love to just see time melt out of the picture. ;o)

One day I would love to do a TTD session out in the desert with a bride and then work it in photoshop adding some of Dali’s melting clocks into the scenery.  Something to think about for this winter when things slow down.

After the SDMA we went over to the San Diego Art Institute, which features local artists. Before we got into weddings we were very active members and showed our photography in juried shows there. This is also where I was featured in 2 solo shows of my photography. It was fun seeing the work of artist/friends that we have not seen in awhile and it was a good reminder of our photography roots.. art.

So.. after some relaxation and a great revisit into the art world, I am totally fired up and ready for another wedding!  Tonight we are going to a 5 hour photography workshop and I can’t wait!

rock the reception June 30, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadowcatcher @ 3:08 am

While flipping mindlessly through channels on the TV tonight Skip and I stumbled on to yet another wedding related series… but this one rocks! (sorry)

Rock The Reception on TLC!! OMG……. it looked like sooo much fun!

Couples hire choreographers to teach them some amazing dance for the first dance, one included the bridesmaids and the other included the Maid of Honor and Best Man.

So…. we were both just sitting here drooling thinking about how we would LOVE to shoot a dance like that, so…. to any of our couples brave enough to go for it, we will include a free TTD (Trash The Dress) or Bride & Groom session if  you do something like this for your first dance!

What can I say, I am a dance fanatic ;o)

Some days the elements just don’t work in your favor. Sunday evening we met Peter and Jessica out at the beach in Cardiff and found our favorite shooting spot was completely underwater! Arrrgh!

So…. we did a few quick shots so that they could have an image for their engagement announcement in the paper and recheduled for next week when we had a low tide.

Stay tuned… these two are going to be a blast on their session!

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadowcatcher @ 10:49 pm

Saturday June 22nd the whole Shadowcatcher crew headed out to Los Willows in Fallbrookfor the Destination Wedding of Stacey and Colin. Stacey and Colin are from Vegas where Stacey, an actress, plays Marilyn in the Rat Pack show .  We had an amazing engagement session with these two a few months ago out at the beach in Cardiff and were really excited to be with them again on their wedding day!

Stacey brought along her personal stylist from Vegas who did a terrific job on all of the girls hair.

Marqui Artistry did an amazing record fast and beautiful job with makeup on everyone.

Stacey’s handsome new hubby… Colin!

The bridesmaids dresses were beautiful… for sure something the girls could wear again!

On her way to the big moment………..

The wedding blended together different cultures, Colin’s Scottish background was evident with a bagpiper who played as guests arried and as Stacey came across the lake in the boat and down the aisle.

The stomping of the glass!………. Mazal Tov!

As a surprise for Stacey and Colin, Les who plays  Sinatra in Staceys’ show, got up and sang Fly me to the moon, just like Frank. You can heae him yourself if you click here….. http://cdbaby.com/cd/lankhorst

Ok.. now we have seen a LOT of garter tosses, but I have to say this was the steamiest one EVER! Leave it to Stacey ;0) This lady knows how to fire up a room!

Stacey and Colin, what can we say that doesn’t start with… wow! You two have been amazing to work with and we value your friendships! You are two we will never forget… and we look forward to seeing you in Vegas someday soon!

Saturday June 14th

Ahhhhhh… Karen & Charles this is a couple that just makes you sit back and go awwwwww…..

When we first met Karen & Charles last year we knew this was going to be something special and we were so excited that they booked with us… and at one of our absolute favorite locations. Los Willows!

Their engagement session was a non stop  high energy laugh a minute time and the wedding day was just as good… if not better!

Here are some of our favorites from the day….

The back of Karen’s gown was spectacular! Super Bling and then some! Tiny rhinestones followed from the front of the gown all the way down the back corset.

The little rhinestones on the shoes completed the bling from head to toe!

Here is Remy, our waaaay to cute flower girl for the day.

A girl can only sit still for so long.. right Remy?

Could Karen look any more lovely… we don’t think so!

Meet Charles… Groom extraordinaire. Charles is my new hero….. with all the wedding planning etc. he had going on, Charles remembered to bring me a Panda hat! Woooooo Charles! I am sooo lovin that hat!

Gerryanne from  Temecula Floral  provided us again with some knock dead gorgeous flowers, and they smelled sooooo good! Gerryanne always has something special for Shadowcatcher Brides, if you are booking with us, be sure to ask her about that ;0)

We also had the opportunity to work with some other terrific wedding vednors that helped make the day run beautifuly

Dj- Pro Sound … loved the centerpiece game!

Video- K&K Productions- Great husband and wife video team! And they share their video light very well… thanks again guys!

Chocolate Havenprovided the most amazing chocolate fountain and goodies to dip, the room was filled with the sweet smell all night long…. yummmmm!

6-7-8 the big dinino wedding date! June 9, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadowcatcher @ 5:47 pm

Saturday June 7th

The Shadowcatcher team headed out to downtown San Diego in full force Saturday morning.

It seems like we had been looking forward to Patricia and Chris’ wedding forever! And were sooo excited it was finally here! Skip and I met our assistants Erin & Janelle at St. Josephs and then headed over to get some shots of Chris and his guys at the Hotel Solamar down in the Gaslamp area.

From there it was off to the Marriott where we hooked up with Patricia and the girls to do some getting ready shots and some of the girls in action!

Patricia looked absolutely STUNNING in her Ines Di Santo “Madison” gown. Her hair was done by Shawna at The Loft Hair Design, Shawna can really rock a “Do”!

Patricia’s flowers were done by Splendid Sentiments and were STUNNING! From the brides bouquet to the magnificent centerpieces at the reception. We highly recommend checking this company out!

Our next stop was St. Josephs Cathedral for a beautiful ceremony.

A rolls for the get away car….. nice!

PK and Chris wanted to do something a bit different after the ceremony, rather that stand around and do formal shots, we all just cruised around the city shooting as we went……

Then it was back to  the El Cortez. This was our first wedding at the El Cortez and I couldn’t have been more excited, honestly all day long it was almost all I could think about ;0) I have always loved that building and couldn’t wait to get inside and check it out!

Patricia and Chris had the rare opportunity to get into the reception before the guests to check it out.

Signature guest book… ummm no….. signature mat… ummm no, how about something totally new… signature couch! Great idea!

This crowd knew how to PARTY!

Patty and Chris… we love you guys! Thank you so much for your friendship and choosing us as your photographers, we will always remember your day!

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadowcatcher @ 3:05 pm

Thursday June 5th.

We originally had Tuesday’s Senior session scheduled for Wednesday but somehow the June weather turned into December weather.. where did that rain come from?? Luckily we had the option of rescheduling and we were all so happy we did! I had a great time running around with Tuesday and think we really caught  some great shots!

Tuesday has a bit of a purse obsession, hmmmm, I sure can relate to that!

Shannon & Mike’s Wedding day… Woooo! June 1, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadowcatcher @ 7:21 pm

Saturday May 31st- Villa De Amore ~ Temecula

Saturday Skip, Erin and I headed up to Temecula for a wedding we had all really been looking forward to…… Shannon and Mike’s!  We had been out earlier in the month to look at the venue with Shannon and Mike and were blown away by the many, many many photo spots this venue has to offer, it is amazing! Our only worry was that there wouldn’t be enough time in the day to get it all in, looking back I still think it would have been great to have another 2 hours or so to work around there with these two ;o)

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and we were lucky enough again to be paired up with our favorite video team NR3! The day was filled with so many tender loving moments and surprises, we all wound up a bit teary eyed MANY times! The love between these two just makes you stop. …..step back and go… awwwwww! WOW!

Here are a few of our favorite shots and moments from the day………

This was one of the great teary moments of the day, Shannon and Mike sort of saw each other before the ceremony and Mike surprised Shannon with some beautiful earrings.

BIG surprise #2 for Shannon, Mike surprises her once again  during the ring exchange in the ceremony with the most beautiful wedding ring ever, it was so bling the people in the seats in the back were blinded! And surprise again.. this time for Mike, a ring he hadn’t expected… you guys are tooo much!

This was great… something we had never seen before….  ya know how sometimes the DJ embarrasses the poor girl who caught the bouquet and the guy that caught the garter by having the garter guy put the garter on the bouquet catcher? Well… here’s a twist, DJ Chuck blindfolded the garter catcher and then stuck our groom Mike out there with a stocking on his foot. DJ Chuck guided poor unsuspecting garter catcher as he puts the garter on Mikes leg thinking it was pretty bouquet catcher, I think he was ready to pass out when the blindfold came off… toooo funny!

Again, this was one of those amazing days that makes us all say… WE LOVE OUR JOB!

WOOOO!

Thanks so much Shannon and Mike for choosing Shadowcatcher to be a part of this day, you two are the best!
